Question: A shaded path of uniform width surrounds rectangular park EFGH inside outer rectangle ABCD. (i) Give a formula for the path area. (ii) If the path width is w all around and the park is L by B, find the path area. (iii) Does moving ABCD while keeping EFGH inside change the path area?
Answer: Area(path) = Area(ABCD) - Area(EFGH). With park L x B and width w: 2w(L+B)+4w^2. Shifting the outer rectangle without changing sizes does not change the path area.
